Community Service: Public Speaking Training at the Military District Command Hall (Kodim) 0407 Bengkulu

The Public Speaking training for the preachers and muballigh in Bengkulu city was held on April 4, 2021 where the speakers were from the Bengkulu University FKIP Mr. Eko Saputra, S.Pd., M.A. This activity was opened by representatives from the Bengkulu City Kodim 0407 and the chairman of the Indonesian Young Da’i Association Mr. Nanang Kosim, S.HI. In general, this activity aims to equip young preachers in Bengkulu province with the ability to convey material in front of the public in an interesting, effective and efficient manner and how to control nervousness when standing in front of the congregation.

This activity was actually filled by 3 speakers with expertise in their respective fields, Mr. Eko Saputra, S.Pd., M.A. trusted to bring material with the title confident when communicating (confident when communicating). This material aims to teach participants how a public speaker can control and manage the nervousness that arises in him when he is about to deliver his material or lecture in public or his congregation. There are 8 important points that become the focus of the material presented, namely: 1. Complete preparation, 2. Flying hours, 3. Recognizing the characteristics of nervousness, 4. Pretending not to be nervous, 5. Positive thinking, 6. Not focusing to perfection and focus on the process, 7. Not comparing yourself with people who have been great, and 8. Communicating with the soul.

After the material has been delivered, the participants have a discussion related to the material. Some of the participants were even very enthusiastic about sharing their personal experiences about the problems they faced during their lectures. They confirmed that when they were nervous, all the materials that had been prepared could not be delivered optimally. Mr. Eko Saputra, S.Pd., M.A. painstakingly taking the discussion in a positive direction and reconnecting the questions that arise to the material that has been presented and re-explaining points that may not have been very clear to the participants. Then the activity closed with the final conclusion presented by the speaker.

In this activity, the campus asked the students of the English Language Study Program at the Bengkulu University to be involved in making the activity a success. The students are Agustini (A1B02001), Nurhalimah Nasution (A1B020002) and Mayang Sari (A1B020004).
