Fernandita Gusweni Jayanti, a lecturer and Ph.D candidate at the School of Education in the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney

Fernandita Gusweni Jayanti is a lecturer at English Language Education Program, the University of Bengkulu. She is currently studying for a Ph.D. at the School of Education in the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney. She was awarded with BUDI-LN scholarship by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) in 2018 and then started her Ph.D. journey in February 2020.

She is working on a research project that investigates the language teachers’ cognition about motivational reading instructions. Along with working on her research project and thesis, she has also been actively engaged in some activities held by the school or faculty. She became one of the mentors at the mentoring program organized by the School of Education. She also joined the 3MT (3 Minute Thesis Competition) held by the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture. Recently, she presented one of her research findings in ADA HDR Conference at UNSW.

She is very grateful for the opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. at UNSW as she feels very supported in conducting her research and writing her thesis. The university provides excellent library services and resources. It also provides plentiful training and workshops on conducting research, academic writing, publication, and research methodology and technology.  Not only does it provide great academic support, but it also provides excellent programs and services related to students’ wellbeing. More importantly, she is very pleased with the opportunity to engage and collaborate with the experts in the field of her study.

In her third year of Ph.D. candidature, she is looking forward to presenting her research findings in prestigious international conference(s) and publishing her work in reputable journals. Finally, she hopes that all the knowledge and experiences she got during her Ph.D. would help her bring more impactful contribution when she comes back.
